Okay, so I am 61 and my eyes aren’t what they used to be. Well one is… let me explain. I had monovision lasik done about 12 years ago. One eye was corrected to see perfectly at a distance and the other was “under corrected” so that I could still see close for reading, etc. Like bifocals or monovision contact lenses. Well fast forward a dozen years and the under corrected eye doesn’t see quite as well as it did. So when I get tired I grab a pair of reading glasses.
The problem is that when I am putting on my eyeliner (don’t really have problems with any other makeup) it’s hard to see when I put it on that eye that sees close because… well because the closed one is the one that sees close! Since the other eye is corrected to see far it’s not much help in the fine art of applying winged eyeliner! LOL! I think that makeup magnifying glasses might help so I am on the hunt for a nice pair so watch for that article to post soon. But in the meantime it has made me look for a really good liquid eyeliner that applies quickly, evenly and most importantly easily!
Today I am going to just share with you the last three I tried because quite frankly the others aren’t even worth mentioning. Be sure to read down to the end for my big reveal because I have found my holy grail liner AND I will share with you where I find it at the BEST PRICE! So let’s get going…
After reading and watching tons of reviews on this liner I would NEVER have bought it. Really? Why? Person after person said how awful it is. And you know what? they were all right. I got a free sample when buying something else or I would never have tried it. It is every bit as bad as they say. The formula balls up and the applicator is horrible. So I grabbed a couple different eyeliner brushes, one like a MAC 266 Small Angle Brush and a pointed MAC 210 Precise Eyeliner Brush and still no luck! Neither worked. I kept the deluxe sample for the picture for this post but it’s going in the trash now. So bad. Sad. I should have known how bad it was when Dani from Coffee Break with Dani said it’s definitely not worth the hype:
I know, Dani is young enough to be my daughter, heck she would be the baby in my family, but she’s fun and quirky (quirky?) and she doesn’t mince words. If she doesn’t like a product she’s not going to tell you otherwise and I love that about her. But I too got the sample, albeit way after her, and everything she said in her video is true.
I had so much hope for this one! Dominique Sachse swears by it! She uses it religiously in all her looks and it looks wonderful on her. Of course it doesn’t hurt that the woman is gorgeous to start with and she is about a decade younger than me so her eyesight (although she pulls out reading glasses a lot in her videos?) might be better. She even lists it in her “My Top 10 Current Favorite Products!” video:
So I bought one at my local CVS. Nice ergonomic packaging, a nice tapered tip, but the tip is like a felt tip marker and mine seemed so dry. So I called Milani and asked if it normally that dry. They said no and maybe it was on the shelf in the store too long. They very nicely sent me a new one. Still dry. It dragged over my eyelid dry. Over my mature eyelid so not good. So while it works for Dominique it didn’t work for me. It might work for you. If it does please let me know your secret in your comment below! I would love to hear!
Fast forward to Mary Ellen of Mary Ellen after 60 mentioning that she absolutely loves the Jesse’s Girl black liquid liner. Too be fair, I had heard others mention it in the past too, (Dani loves Jesse’s Girl too so I bet on her channel) but for some reason Mary Ellen pushed me over the edge. She listed it in her Gold Standard” Products in her recent video. I just had to give it a try!
So I went hunting for it. They do sell Jesse’s Girl cosmetics at some Rite Aid stores. Not mine. Tried 3. No luck. If I bought it from the Jesse’s Girl website it cost almost as much in shipping as the liner! They do offer free shipping with orders over $20 but I didn’t need any of their other products and that seemed wasteful. So off to Amazon! Yes I could get it cheaper there, only $10 instead of $13 but I am always afraid of getting past their prime products when it comes to something with a short shelf life like eyeliner.
Then as luck would have it, and I have no idea how or why Jet.com popped up in my search! I almost didn’t click on it because I had read about that site last year but they charge for membership like Costco, (belong) Sam’s (don’t belong) and Costco Prime (which I haven’t succumbed to yet) O-M-G I had NO idea that last fall they dropped that fee! Long story short they carry Jesse’s Girl Black Liquid Eyeliner for the $6.99 I would have paid in the store or on their site BUT with FREE shipping and NO tax! SCORE!
So I ordered one to try out. It has the same long tapered tip as the Milani liner but this one is actually a brush not a felt tip! It glides on effortlessly! No tugging. No struggling. I can actually pull off a wing if I want! Well, I think it will be better when I get my makeup glasses but it’s not bad! Now I know why Mary Ellen calls it her “gold standard” liner! YAY for Mary Ellen and YAY for me! No more hunting for a great cost-effective liner that really works! I have to tell you too that it stays put! I fell asleep the other night before <gasp> washing all my makeup off and it was still there the next morning! This stuff is the bomb!
So thank you Mary Ellen, Jesse’s Girl and to Jet for giving it to me at such a great buy! While I absolutely love my Jane eyeliner for tightlining I will be using Jesse’s Girl liquid liner for lining my upper lid and wings!
I am ordering a backup from Jet.com right now! But before I do I want to encourage you to watch all these ladies’ YouTube channels! They are amazing and always bring light, joy, good ideas and great buys into my life. I think you’ll like them too!
In the meantime, I hope you have an amazing week! Ciao for now!
